The Children's Department closes at 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday.

The Teen Room opens at 2:00 pm and closes at 8:00 pm Monday through Thursday. The The Teen Room opens at 2:00 pm and closes at 5:00 pm on Friday.

The Local History Room is open 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday and Wednesday. It is open 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. To make a special appointment to visit the Local History Room outside of these hours, please contact Patricia Watson at (860) 224-3155 ext. 122 or nbpllhr@netscape.net.

The library is closed on Saturday in the summer.

The Main Library is located in downtown New Britain on the corner of West Main and High Streets. It is two blocks from City Hall.

From I-84 West: Take Exit 39A for Route 9 South. Take Exit 27 (Chestnut St. exit) off Route 9 and go right at the end of the exit ramp. At the next light, go right onto Columbus Boulevard. Take a left at the third light onto High Street. The library is the second building on the right. Free parking is available behind the library (follow the driveway between the YMCA and the library). Metered parking is available on the street.

From I-84 East: Take Exit 35 for Route 72 East. (This is a left exit.) Take Exit 8 straight onto Columbus Boulevard. At the next light, turn right onto High Street. The library is the second building on the right. Free parking is available behind the library (follow the driveway between the YMCA and the library). Metered parking is available on the street.

From I-91 North:Take Exit 22 for Route 9 North. Take Exit 26 straight onto Columbus Boulevard. At the fifth light, turn left onto High Street. The library is the second building on the right. Free parking is available behind the library (follow the driveway between the YMCA and the library). Metered parking is available on the street.

Chamberlain Branch at 120 Newington Avenue

From Downtown New Britain: Follow Main Street north and take a right onto East Main. Follow East Main up a hill to its end. Take a right onto East Street. Your first light will be Newington Avenue, where you will take a left. Pass two streets on your left and look for a large yellow sign marking the driveway to Chamberlain School, also on your left. Take this left and bear left around the school as you enter. We are the farthest red door to your left and are marked by a sign for Chamberlain Branch. 

From Rt. 9 North : Take Exit 26, Downtown New Britain exit. At the end of the ramp, go straight and at the next light, just before the Stop & Shop, take a right onto Chestnut Street. At the end of Chestnut Street, go left onto East Street. Take your 4th right onto Newington Avenue. Take a left into the Chamberlain School Entrance. The Chamberlain Branch is located at the front of the school on the left hand side.

From Rt. 9 South : Take Exit 28A, East Main Street exit. At the end of the exit, take a left at the light. Follow East Main Street until it ends at East St. Take a right onto East St. Get immediately in the left turning lane and at the light take a left onto Newington Ave. Take a left into the Chamberlain School Entrance. The Chamberlain Branch is located at the front of the school on the left hand side.

Jefferson Branch at 140 Horseplain Road

From Downtown New Britain: Go north on Corbin Avenue, past the Hospital for Special Care, and turn left into Horseplain Road. You will pass Jefferson Elementary School on your left. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Slater Road and turn left into the school parking lot. Library parking is available at the end of the school lot, in front of our entrance.

From I-84 West: Take Exit 37 for Fienemann Road and at the end of the ramp go right onto Fienemann. Take your second right onto Slater Road. Look for Jefferson School after the stop sign. The school will be on the left side. There is a bright yellow sign indicating the school and library entrance. The library is located at the front of the school.

From I-84 East: Take exit 37 for Fienemann Road and at the end of the ramp go right and take the first right onto Slater Road. Look for Jefferson School after the stop sign.
