MapQuest directions from your door to ours

The Main Library is located in downtown New Britain on the corner of West Main and High Streets. It is two blocks from City Hall.

From I-84 West: Take Exit 39A for Route 9 South. Take Exit 27 (Chestnut St. exit) off Route 9 and go right at the end of the exit ramp. At the next light, go right onto Columbus Boulevard. Take a left at the third light onto High Street. The library is the second building on the right. Free parking is available behind the library (follow the driveway between the YMCA and the library). Metered parking is available on the street.

From I-84 East: Take Exit 35 for Route 72 East. (This is a left exit.) Take Exit 8 straight onto Columbus Boulevard. At the next light, turn right onto High Street. The library is the second building on the right. Free parking is available behind the library (follow the driveway between the YMCA and the library). Metered parking is available on the street.

From I-91 North: Take Exit 22 for Route 9 North. Take Exit 26 straight onto Columbus Boulevard. At the fifth light, turn left onto High Street. The library is the second building on the right. Free parking is available behind the library (follow the driveway between the YMCA and the library). Metered parking is available on the street.

Our Collection
The Main Library has a wide range of materials for all ages - children, teens, and adults. Our collection includes books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, books on CD , music CDs, large print materials, downloadable audio books, and children's books on CD . We also collect materials in Spanish, Arabic, and Polish. We have the New Britain Herald on microfilm. Our Local History Room has a repository of items pertaining to New Britain, including books, newspaper clippings, yearbooks, and photographs. We can obtain materials from our Jefferson Branch (if they are not checked out), or from other libraries in our network.

Our Programs
We offer programs for all ages and interests. Regular programs include children's storytimes, summer reading events, computer classes for adults, makerspace programs, movies and book discussion groups at the New Britain Senior Center and the Main Library. Many other special events are scheduled throughout the year. Check our calendar of events for specific information. We welcome suggestions for programs that would interest you.

Other Services
We have computers for adults, teens, and children. They have Internet access and the Microsoft Office suite. Printing is available for a small fee. We offer Wifi
access throughout the library. Our Scannx flatbed scanner can scan to PDF, PNG, and JPEG, as well
as Word (DOCX) using optical character recognition. You can save documents to a USB drive or send
by email; you can also sign in to your Google account to email directly from your Gmail account or
save to your Google Drive.

Homebound delivery is available for the elderly or disabled. Please contact the Information Desk at

Our self-service fax allows outgoing faxes only. It costs $1.75 for the first page and $1.00 for each additional page to fax within the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. Credit card only.
