From Downtown New Britain:
Follow Main Street north and take a right onto East Main. Follow East Main up a hill to its end. Take a right onto East Street. Your first light will be Newington Avenue, where you will take a left. Pass two streets on your left and look for a large yellow sign marking the driveway to Chamberlain School, also on your left. Take this left and bear left around the school as you enter. We are the farthest red door to your left and are marked by a sign for Chamberlain Branch.
From Rt. 9 North : Take Exit 26, Downtown New Britain exit. At the end of the ramp, go straight and at the next light, just before the Stop & Shop, take a right onto Chestnut Street. At the end of Chestnut Street, go left onto East Street. Take your 4th right onto Newington Avenue. Take a left into the Chamberlain School Entrance. The Chamberlain Branch is located at the front of the school on the left hand side.
From Rt. 9 South : Take Exit 28A, East Main Street exit. At the end of the exit, take a left at the light. Follow East Main Street until it ends at East St. Take a right onto East St. Get immediately in the left turning lane and at the light take a left onto Newington Ave. Take a left into the Chamberlain School Entrance. The Chamberlain Branch is located at the front of the school on the left hand side.
Our Collection
The Chamberlain Branch has a wide range of materials for all ages- children, teens, and adults. Our collection includes books, graphic novels, magazines, DVDs and videos, CDs, and large print materials. We have small collections of Spanish materials for both children and adults. We can obtain materials from our other branches quickly (if they are not checked out), or from other libraries in our network.
Our Programs
We present movies both after school and during school vacations. Feel free to call the library for titles and times.
Annual programs include Holiday Origami, Valentines for Vets, Dr. Seuss Day Reading Marathon and March Magic Show. We also offer summer reading clubs for all ages every year.
Summer programs are offered weekly and have included magicians, puppeteers, mimes and other talented performers.
Special programs are announced on our calendar of events and in local newspapers.
Other Services
Board games, such as Sorry or chess, are available for in-house use.
We have 4 public access computers available. You may sign up in person for up to an hour of computer use by showing us a valid library card. If you are a New Britain resident without a library card, we will be happy to issue you one with proof of residency. Our computers are networked with a printer. We charge 25 cents for a black and white printed copy and 50 cents for a color copy.
We also have a black and white photocopier available. Copies are 10 cents each.
We offer outgoing fax service. |
